Impact Of Climate Change In The Arctic
November 30, 2021
Decades of reckless human behavior have resulted in severe consequences, particularly evident in the Arctic due to climate change. This poses an existential threat to both human and environmental survival, highlighting the far-reaching impacts of climate change in the Arctic individual actions on a global scale.
It is pleasing to look at the beauty of the glaciers and identify their animation process in the Arctic. Impressively, those massive ice blocks, frozen for ages, manage to break down and then rebuild themselves up again by the course of changing seasons. The striking factor is that the formation and breakup of the icebergs is an indicative dependency element for the wildlife in the Arctic region. That being said, it has been established that glaciers are responsible for regulating the food chain in the area. It is seriously alarming to watch life forms there suffer due to environmental changes.
The resolution of banning commercial whale hunting has raised the whale population, but ignorance regarding pollution control has led to these massive creatures being deprived of sufficient food. The birds in the Arctic, such as the penguins, albatrosses, also have similarly been affected by the impacts of human activities. It has led to a downfall in their numbers. The recent situation vouches for the desperate need for the deep-sea currents to flow the supply of nutrients to all the oceans around the world as it helps maintain the global temperature. Therefore, it is indeed crucial to spread awareness about the specific natural process and to think of the unfortunate consequences it will bring about in the future, that is if the natural process is disturbed. This circumstance itself should be a competent reason enough for us as a community to act upon the problem of global warming.
The ice allows the animals in the Arctic to seek shelter, ambush, and hunt for their survival. Witnessing the fall outs of climate change resulting in the polar bears suffering to hunt seals and adversely the seals being unable to find refuge to save themselves and their young from the predators is truly a sad scene to watch. These bears are meant to live exclusively on the ice platforms. Acknowledging the problem of speeding glacier melting, many have lost their lives due to malnutrition or by living stranded on tiny icebergs. Although the broken ice at times lets these mammals shelter away from predators, they also provide access to feeding grounds. And as already supposed, the expedited consumption of krill and other marine creatures has led to a consequential shortage of food. The accelerated process of melting ice has caused walruses a problem too. They have lost their natural home and, now due to the tedious issue of overcrowding on a single land, they bid adieu in a painful way.
